Pilgrimage
'Pilgrimage' is a travelling exhibition of work by myself and two other artists, Sarah Baird and Stefanie Moss. Although we work in very different media we have come together in a collaboration of similar ideas from discussion on the theme of pilgrimage. "A pilgrimage is a journey of risk and renewal. A journey without challenge has no meaning. One without purpose has no soul and by definition it is life changing. A pilgrimage is to lose yourself or to find yourself". This travelling exhibition is on it's own pilgrimage and will be shown in a series of galleries during 2012.
For the 'Pilgrimage' exhibition I will be creating new work subtly based around circles. My initial thought about what the word 'pilgrimage' meant to me was that I felt as if my life has been a journey leading me back, full circle, to doing the things I enjoyed most as a small child.
Sarah Baird is a painter who creates mixed media works, recording her experiences in a diary of layered calligraphic markings. Sarah Baird - http://sarah-baird.blogspot.com/
Stefanie Moss is a textile artist who has created large hangings which incorporate the theme of journeys, architecture and maps. Stefanie Moss - www.stefaniemoss.com
Epping Forest Field Centre-40th anniversary
The Epping Forest Field Centre celebrated its 40th anniversary this September (2011). I created a wire sculpture based upon a map of the area to mark the occassion.
I took my inspiration for the work from the Ordnance Survey Map of the area, using roads to determine the shape of a tree. Having first cut the map to resemble a tree form I then drew around the shape with galvanised steel wire to create a framework and then coloured in the form using coloured copper wires.
The wire map is displayed in the Field Centre's reception area as part of the celebrations.

'Rain Circles'
I have created a sculpture for a Show Garden at this year's Show. The garden is entitled "Ripple" and is designed and built by Gro Landscapes. The sculpture, made out of stainless steel, was inspired by one of my photographic images based upon rain drops falling on water and the patterns they create.
The garden was awarded a silver-guilt by the judges.
See Sculpture page, sculpture inspired by photography for images.

Walk The Seasons
Solo Exhibition
April 2011 - weekends 9/10, 16/17 - 12 noon until 4pm
Benham Gallery, Cuckoo Farm Studios, Boxted Road, Colchester, Essex CO4 5HH
The exhibition focuses upon our seasonal relationship with leaves and trees. In spring the space around a leaf is small and intimate as the leaf breaks into bud. During summer individual leaves are absorbed into the tree canopy above. By autumn the different characteristic of trees and leaves become apparent. Scale and form create patterns in the landscape over winter.
The subject matter for this exhibition is leaves and trees but it is about the space as much as the physical work. Prior to studying art I had worked as a garden designer and I wanted to make work to go in a garden space, having spent time focusing on the artwork I want to re-engage with the space it occupies.

'Breeze'
Inspired by autumn leaves blowing in the breeze I wanted to experiment with ways of suspending my metal leaves to enable them to move freely with the wind. Employing the same forging techniques I use to create my plant forms I have adapted the designs to form letters. The word 'breeze' will be suspended within the tree canopy and 'leaves' will be spelt out on the ground below. The stainless steel woven wirecloth leaves will be suspended from the mild steel forms.
My work will be at The Sir Harold Hillier Gardens from 22nd May until 31st October 2010.

Although I chose to specialise in working with metal for my 3D work, photography was a major factor in my inspiration. In this exhibition, as well as displaying my photographs traditionally framed, I will also be experimenting with applying my images to other surfaces.
Canopy
In December last year, after graduating in the summer with a BA (Hons) Art and Design, 3D Design and Craft, I was awarded the Cuckoo Farm Studios/Colchester Institute Graduate in Residence Scholarship Award. This award had provided me with a studio for a year where I can experiment with materials and ideas. As part of the award I will be exhibiting my work at the Minories Art Gallery, 74 High Street, Colchester, Essex CO1 1UE - www.theminories.co.uk - from 20th February until 23rd April 2010. I will be exhibiting 3D and photographic work. The work will be a progression of the ideas and techniques explored during and since my degree.
